Keeping the Bread of Life

Writer: Montene BryantMontene Bryant

Today, I’m thankful for the bread of life, Jesus Christ. He has given so much for you to walk in this life for the fulfillment of His high calling. His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. The bread is what is subsequently important for the body, but more important to the spirit man. This week I was reading about a time in Ezekiel 5:1-8

He has given you the dough, how will you steward the word?
He has given you the dough, how will you steward the word?

When Jerusalem had a sword against them. It was not about the rituals and sacrifices; it was the rebellion against the judgments and statutes, and they did not walk in them. There was an increase in famine in the land, and there was a cutting off of the supply of bread. This caught my attention; there was a cut-off supply of bread. They did not walk in the statutes and judgments of God.

The Lord directed me to Matthew 6:11-12, which states, “Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” This passage revealed a significant insight: Jesus is the bread of life. Reflecting on the time of Ezekiel, it was apparent that the Jews were not adhering to judgments or living by statutes. In contrast, in Matthew, the Lord's prayer asks for daily sustenance. We have been granted access to God's provision through His son and are now on the other side of the cross. Jesus Christ, the bread of life, guides our daily actions.

In the era of Ezekiel, there was doubt and rebellion; in our current era, we possess faith. Our faith is rooted in the deeds and promises of Jesus as stated in scripture. During a conversation with a lady this week about faith and sustenance, I had a revelation: “BREAD + Faith = Provision, not provision + faith = bread.” To fully experience God's blessings, we must have the word of life within us and maintain faith. Even if the blessings are not visible in the natural world, we believe them because God has promised them. This belief leads to provision, peace, hope, and much more.

I then asked the Lord, what does all this mean? What do you want me to know? He said the cutting away of finances will be upon many. Pray that the fulfillment of righteousness will be upon the ones who have my favor and keep my statutes and commands. Then I asked Him about Matthew and what that means today for us, “the bread of life of Christ. Ask for Christ Jesus to fulfill you today, and He will. There will not be a cutoff of my Spirit on the righteous, but an abundance of grace and mercy. As you have forgiven, I will forgive you for the areas you felt you have not been faithful.” He then said, “Come back to the bread daily, come to me and hear what I have for you. Don’t be distracted by what the world is doing, but be focused and keep the bread of life.”
